Have a pool with a leaking 1-1/2" at the wall fitting. 1-1/2" female threaded to slip PVC fitting. Its the suction side for vacuuming so have been using skimmer instead. My parents had a pool repair guy come out and he used 2 part epoxy which I guess only solved problem a short time and would still get some air in pump when they would use it. So this week I decided to tackle problem. I cut return line to pump and caped line to pump . Other side to pool set up test jig to use air to test. Installed a test plug on wall of pool . Line would not hold any pressure so I modified test plug to go inside 1-1/2" just past first joint of PVC and line hold pressure no problem. So now I know problem is where repair was tried to be made by repair man but now I need to remove his epoxy that is in threads and on fitting. Any suggestions. Thanks in Advance!!!!

Pool is still filled now! Its just a plain old 1-1/2" PVC female thread to female slip glue joint fitting threaded side flush with pool wall! Pool 33 years old , fitting has been a problem for a while that's why my parents were using the skimmer to run the vacuum instead of this suction connector. Which works fine except bugs and other junk is on top of water then. Figure I get this fixed pool will be easier to stay clean! I guess the first think I need to do is clean out epoxy that was put in to see if its a crack or bad glue joint! will have to drain pool down some to expose it! Thanks!

What I did was use a 1" slip coupling reduced one end with a slight bevel and wedged it into the 1-1/2 just past the broken wall fitting then stuck a short piece of 1" into the other end of 1" coupling . Now creepy crawler works great. So now I am thinking of just epoxying the broken wall fitting around the coupling to keep water from leaking out of the pool from the cracked wall fitting!

OK this might help someone that had the same problem I decided to change the 1" coupling which I only had dry fitted to see if it would work to a 1-1/2" inside coupling. But before I could do this I used a hole saw that was a little smaller than 1-1/2" O.D. pipe size to remove all the threads from the cracked wall fitting. Then I used a what I call a flapper sand wheel on a little air grinder to increase the size for 1-1/2" to slid in smoothly . Doing that let the 1-1/2" inside coupling go in flush with the pipe and then was able to insert a 1-1/2" male by 1-1/4" reducer on other end of inside coupling. Glued it all together and tonight all is running great! No more air in pump basket! hope this helps someone! I figured this is better than coring a hole through the wall and was a heck of a lot cheaper!
