Hey guys! The freeze we had earlier in the month finished off my aging pump and cracked sand filter. Yea!
The pool has been sitting since then and all I’ve done is throw some LC in and swirl it about while I decide what to do next.
My goal would be to have the least maintenance going forward and not spend $1700/month on electricity. The last month that our pool has been shut off, our bill has fallen drastically.

We are still fairly new to having a pool so I’ve been reading here and getting bogged down with information overload. I would love any direction you guys can give me.

Currently have:
Hayward OnCommand (remote doesn’t work)
Hayward Sand Filter S244T (leaking with broken laterals)
Hayward Booster Pump (bypassed when got Dolphin E70)
Century 1.5HP Pump 36119J2 (doesn’t work, leaked so badly that I guess it froze)
Hayward Propane Heater H400FDN (was told it works, never tried it)
Lights (do not work)

We have a slide, 2 skimmers, 4 drains in the bottom, several jets, and a deck with bubblers.

I would like to replace and upgrade the equipment, add a SWG, and be able to use an app on my phone to control and monitor, if that’s possible. I am fine with either a cartridge or sand filter. It looks like all the equipment needs to be able to talk to each other, or be the same brand.

I would prefer to know what I am talking about when I call the pool store. When I originally called about upgrading, I felt a little run over. When I asked about a SWG, variable speed pump and a dolphin, I was told to keep my booster pump and pressure cleaner and I didn’t need any of that other stuff and it’s just fancy marketing. Maybe it is, but I’d still like to upgrade 😂

Thank you everyone!

I would suggest you get:

OmniPL Smart Pool and Spa Control with TCELL940 (Expert Line)

TriStar VS pump

and a large cartridge or sand filter.

Unless you want to use this as an opportunity to move from Hayward to Pentair equipment.

Do you think Pentair would be better? I guess the only thing holding me back is the Hayward heater, if it still works. I’m not sure how to check it with everything not working 😂

Is your homeowners' insurance going to chip in, I hope?
Good idea.
I never even thought about that. We’ve never had a claim before. I wonder if that would raise our rates?
It might be dishonest of me since the equipment wasn’t in too great of shape to begin with 😂

Some insurance policies require to state that pool equipment is included in your policy. Just call your insurance advisor. If it does, then it does not matter what the state of the equipment. just like buying a house with an old roof and having a hail storm 1 yr later. The insurance will cover it regardless of how old the current roof.

I never thought about it like that. Thank you. I will give our insurance guy a call tomorrow.

I’m going through the links you posted and checking everything out. Thank you!
I always feel like I need more info than I get online from Hayward. Maybe it’s just me, but these are big choices and I just get more confused 😂

I don’t think Pentair will be better for you and probably more expensive.

Pentair does not have a low end automation system that controls actuators. You need to get an IntelliCenter. You need to get an i5P with the IC40 SWG cell….

with an IntelliFlo 011056 VSF or IntelliFlo3 011075 pump…

Shop the Hayward versus Pentair configurations.

Any heater works with all automation using the two wire fireman’s switch control.

Thank you so much for the help. I really appreciate it.
I am hoping we can get back our crystal clear, chemically balanced pool soon. Im sad just looking at it.
