I figured after experimenting with pool solar and an 18' x 52" Intex pool system for the last five years, I should give back some data here for folks trying to do pool solar DIY and wanting hard data on how a given system will perform. So hey!
We have a cool climate here between short summers (maybe four months of usable swimming pool use) and also live about 1km from Lake Superior. To add insult to injury, our pool is quite shaded so keeping it warm has been a challenge
The latest iteration of the system is a fully automated (with SmartThings) pool system with a measured 104K BTU of solar heat. Roof and pool sensors are all zigbee/zwave wireless versions that have been mod'd to charge themselves via small solar 5V panels. I've been quite interested in tweaking the system over the last five years to have it setup to provide live data from the sensors, including real time BTU measurements.
