Overnight FC loss was 2. I have not been worried about tracking overnight FC only keeping at SLAM levels. I will probably look at this every other day as the water becomes clearer
Yup. Until the water is clear....... and I mean CLEAR...... it fails by default. There’s no harm in doing an OCLT if you feel like it tho.

You’re doing AWESOME. Stay the course !!

End of week 2 update:

Well it has been two weeks since starting the slam process and I am still averaging about 2 gal of chlorine per day.

I am starting to get enough clarity in the water to see the bottom steps and the pool light in the deep end. Still a long road ahead but it is nice to start seeing some significant progress.

So I have found the reason for my weird initial readings for cya and salt... It was defiantly through a leak and replacement through rain water. I loose about 1/2 inch per day and once the water is clear enough I will dig into it. I just purchased the home and it appears that the pool has been closed for a few seasons. I will probably work that issue through a different thread, but thought I would share here.

Open or Renovate

This is a “50 foot pool”... look good at 50 feet but close up it has a lot of issues and will definitely require a full chip out and replaster next year. It was built in 1991 and does not look like a full replaster has been done just a repaint 5 years ago. Just looking to have some fun this year with the kids and make sure the investment will be appreciated by the family.

Be sure to pull out your light & scrub the niche as well as scrub the skimmer throats & check the weir doors/ foam for algae. It likes to hide!

End of week 3 update:

I CAN SEE THE BOTTOM OF THE DEEP END! I was quite impressed that there was not more silt/sand/stuff on the bottom but is is very clean. More of the same in the coming week.

One question... when is it safe to get in the pool? I have quite a bit of water loss and would like to use some die to find it... also need to get the light out and clean inside. The light does not work and also need to troubleshoot if it is the transformer or bulb.

You can see bottom, so you can get in, all the way up to SLAM level. You are doing great!

End of week 4 update:

Continued slam all week and the water is very clear. I also found my leak ans patched it up with some JB waterweld (not permanent but good until I can get in the water and do a more permanent fix). Since I am no longer loosing water I got my cya back to where it needed to be and started adding salt.

Planning on doing a oclt tomorrow... wish me luck!

My next task is getting my ch up to spec. I have found some (MELT50CCP) that can be shipped to my local tractor supply for what seems to be a decent deal ($30/50lb). If someone could provide some feedback on if this stuff would work I would appreciate it... I have heard mixed reviews about snow joe changing their formula.

Snow Joe CH Pellets

The pix below does not really show how good it looks... little cloudy from cya and salt.

Jeff- I think you still have a little ways to go, bud. I can't see the bottom in the deep end. It definitely looks better, but not Gin-clear yet.

I know you are right... mostly wishful thinking and know I have a ways to go.

But... You can see the bottom very clearly... believe me I can see patches that I wish I couldn’t see. It’s just bad angle.
