This is the second season with our small Intex pool. My husband closed it up last fall before I got it prepared for closing. We opened it today and it's a green, smelly swamp!!
What do I need to do first? Here are my numbers:
FC 0
TA 50
Salt 1200
Ph 6.8
CYA 0
Should I add CYA when I add chlorine?
I'm not turning on the SWG until I get this mess under control.
I have an automatic vacummn but I'm going to get a vacummn so I can vacummn to waste.
8x16x42" Intex, sand pump, swg

what was you CYA level when you closed the pool last year?

A zero CYA reading with smelly green water could potentially mean ammonia is present. That will make slamming the pool all the more hard.

As soon as the sun gets off the pool, I'm going to add 10 ppm chlorine to it and check in 30 minutes to see how much chlorine has been used, then go from there. That might give me a good indicator if I have an ammonia problem. My pool was perfect all last summer. It got out of whack because I didn't put any chlorine in before my husband shut it down!!

Yeah. You definitely want to close a pool when the water temp gets below 60F and you should definitely bring it up to SLAM level. Otherwise …. pea soup awaits you … maybe you shouldn’t be the one rectifying the mess 😉

Some light reading for your hubs -

My hubs doesn't even know how to turn on a computer! We had a large above ground for around 17 years. We never covered it, so I could see what was going on with it. This small pool came with a cover and he thought he was doing me a favor by covering it up!! NOT!! He's now out there brushing the walls and scooping out junk!
