Green pool

Best thing you can do at this point is get the CYA down to a point you are ready to start the SLAM Process. Are you still borrowing a friends TF-100? You're going to need quite a bit of reagents for your SLAM Process. With that you should be able to perform the SLAM Process properly. If you follow the notes on that page carefully, you should be able to overcome the algae issue.
The TF site says it is on backorder so i am using the nighbors kit. I will replenish him with the new one.
Might also be good for us to see a pic or two of your pool water from a couple different angles.
will send in the morning. It is 9 pm here.

I would not waste more drain and refill the way you're doing it. Every time you drain you're also removing some of the good water that was just put as it's diluted. You need NO drain water exchange. Slow process but works every time if followed to the "T". Once you regain 30 CYA by exchanging 66% of the water the slam will be easier and use much less chlorine. Also the filter gauge shows 20psi which in my books is high. Make sure when pump is off it rests @ "0" otherwise you'll need a new gauge.

I have drained another 18 - 2 inches and its filling up now

Question in CYA test - When they say fill up the vial until black dot at bottom disappears, do they mean completely disappear?. I guess this comes w/experience

At 60 I do see the shadow of the dot but it completely disappears between 40 and 50

All right. Water is definitely cloudy now after 20 inch drain refill

FC 15
CYA is 40/45. Depending on when i see shadow of black dot in the CYA vial. at 40 dot disappears

Target FC at 15 is high for CYa level per chart
What should i do now?

As i wait with fingers crossed, i have used chlorinator tabs and have been adjusting the flow dial based on levels.
Is that a no no or are there tabs with no stabilizer that i should use

looking to understand why after 7 years of doing the same, this year has issues

Oh No. i am sticking to liquid chlorine for SLAM

i have my chlorinator turned off

i was looking to find out if my use of chlorine tabs may have caused the CYA to go high as I have been using that every year besides liquid shock as well

You're in the driver's seat now. You learned the tabs/pucks lesson the hard way (high CYA) and now you know liquid chlorine is the best way to chlorinate on a daily basis, not just for the SLAM but afterwards as well. Next spring, if your CYA is low when you open, then you can use tabs for a short while, but only until you see the CYA at a a good level

As for your current situation, blue is good, but crystal clear is even better! Keep focused on the SLAM FC level of 20 and be vigilant with brushing and inspecting all areas of the pool. You'll see the results soon.
