Green pool.... Please Help!!

Great decision on getting the proper tools to manage your pool water.

The baking soda was not a great idea at the time but as you say, you have exchanged alot of that water so no big deal now.
The rough walls could have been some calcium scale as you drove your TA very high with the baking soda. But it should go away over time if your CSI is kept at or just below 0. We will get into CSI later.

I would propose you winterize your pool and wait until early spring to tackle this. Will not be much different than doing it now. But remember, EARLY spring. You want to clear it up before your pool water rises above 60F.

Do you have a winterizing plan? See this for some ideas - Pool School - Closing (Winterizing) Your Above Ground Pool

Take care.

The others here are far more expert than I when it comes to water chemistry, but if you're already seeing overnight sub-freezing temps, you may want to focus more on winterizing your pool, and wait until spring to start fresh with your new regime.

Started the SLAM Process

Our pool is 17500 Gal above ground. It is as green as a Louisiana Swamp with all the slimy algae clumps to go with it. I first started to fill the pool to the proper level, then while it was filling up to the right level I continually skimmed the surface of as much algae clumps as I could. Then once the pool was a proper level I turned on the pump and let the circulating start and added 10 bottles of straight bleach. It is starting to look better already, but..... Ive been here before a few times. The problem always is the same, Once me and my wife have worked all day long and then the next day to get it swimmable it will always start to creep back from clear blue to.... a little hazy now but still bearable..... to teal..... to clear green.... to out of control. Anyway... like I said we have started the slamming process, but need guidance from here on. Has 10 bottles of bleach in it at this time, as of today 3/27/18 at 10pm. Now what? Anyone?

Re: Started the SLAM Process

how have you been adding chlorine up to this point
you need an accurate test kit
slam is not dump and run
you need accurate results, then add the correct amount of liquid chlorine aka bleach
then measure and adjust as frequently as you can, every few hours is ideal

For a SLAM we say get this kit TF-100 Test Kit â„¢ with the XL option. You will needs lots of regent to get the SLAM done.

Please get the test kit listed in my above post. Without it you will continue the algae cycle. When you get the test kit we will be able to clear your pool AND teach you how to keep it clear from then on!
