Green pool. Just got TF-100 test kit. Still confused on how to start.

Last night I put in dry chlorine stabilizer using the sock method and my cya is similar to what it was a few days ago. Does it take awhile for the cya to go up or what?
How much did you add? Add at least 10 ppm CYA worth of stabilizer at a time so you can see it on the test.

Give the CYA a few days to dissolve and show up on the test. I could just consider your CYA 30.

You are correct on the next steps as an OCLT. Just make 100% sure you pass all 3 tests before you officially end the SLAM. You don't want to let your FC drift down and give any remaining algae to get a foothold and erase all of your hard work.

Unfamiliar with the acronym OCLT? what’s that mean? And ok I’ll continue keeping it around 10 until my overnight tests aren’t losing.

Now that I got the pool back to clear I’m wondering how you guys maintain your clear pools. Is there some general guidelines you guys follow. Like a weekly chore list for the pool? Like keeping chlorine at 2 ppm always, do I brush every other day? Do I backwash my filter once a week? How often you guys test everything? Is vacuuming once a week enough? I just don’t wanna ever have a green pool again lmao

OCLT is in the SLAM article, but it is the Overnight Chlorine Last Test. Basically test your chlorine after the sun goes down, then before the sun comes up. If you lost 1 FC or more overnight, it tells you your chlorine is still fighting algae.

As for routine maintenance, check out pool school for several good articles. The most common mistake people make is not keeping their chlorine high enough, so the key to a clear pool to to keep your FC above the minimums at all times according to the FC/CYA chart (see my signature if needed).
