My pool opened today (the pool store does it), and it was beautiful. it's always beautiful (except the one year my cover tore) but this was exceptional. Then they found a small leak at my filter, so they said they coudn't put chlorine in or turn it on. I dumped the chlorine in and called and begged someone to come out asap, because it's 80 degrees for 2 days and then down to 60. but the biggest thing is I can't heat the water without the pump on. so, what can I test in cold water? I wanted to test CYA so I could get that started in case they come tomorrow to fix it, but I don't think I can test in cold water. I always at at least 5 lbs, more like 8 or 10 i think. but it's scary to add CYA without testing! tell me what I should do right now, please?

You cannot get good water tests until the water circulates for 24 hours.

The cold water is not the issue. Layers of stratified water idle is.

Stir in liquid chlorine with your pool brush until your pump gets running.

ok, I dumped it in, knowing i needed to stir it but I had to get somewhere and didn't. how long do I need to stir for?

A few passes with the brush will do. I'd pour it while making a lap, give it a minute to sink and then brush a couple times.
this is my annual, help, I took 7 months off and forgot everything post
It comes back quick. :)

Ok so we did a bunch of stirring. So my next question is if he fixes my problem tomorrow, I can’t test for 24 hours? I don’t know if I’ve ever known this. Ugh. Seasonal pools are great, but man my memory is getting bad. 😂

And let’s say he comes Monday. Is there nothing I can do until then?

Not really.

From my pool opening it takes about a week to get the pool cleaned, water tested, various chemicals adjusted, and the pool set for the season.

Water needs to be circulated for 24 hours before testing.

Salt takes about 48 hours to dissolve and really reach the correct ppm.

CYA takes a few days to dissolve and show in tests.
