Hello everyone!

This is my first time posting and my first pool (2 months old). We are getting ready to go on vacation for 10 days. I have added a timer for my pump but I dont know how to keep my chlorine levels on check while we are out of town.

I currently use liquid Chlorine to sanitize my pool.

What should I do? any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Welcome to TFP! As a liquid chlorine user, you have a couple options:
1 - Have a friend or neighbor add x-amount of chlorine each day (ideal).
2 - Increase the FC level to SLAM level (see FC/CYA Levels) and then place a floater in the water with tabs if your CYA isn't too high already.

If you have questions about any of these let us know.

Post a full set of current test results to PoolMath and save them.

What is your current CYA level? Maybe float some tablets if you have a lower CYA.
Is anyone coming by to empty your skimmer baskets and check on your equipment? Maybe they can add a pre-measured amount on each visit.

My CYA levels are low. I think adding some tabs to a floater is the way to go. How many tabs should I put for the 10 days I will be out? Also, the floater has different “settings” to release the chlorine, should I mess with that? Should I cover the pool?

Cover is a good option to cut down on FC loss from the sun and of course keep debris out of the water. Your call though base don effort. The mount of free chlorine and/or tabs would be dependent on your CYA level as noted above. Can you share your current CYA level?

Sorry it took me a moment to get back to you. The current CYA level is 50.

but how many tabs? and should I open the floater dispenser all the way?
If you use the cover, increase the FC to about half of SLAM level, so about 10-12 ppm. Drop a floater in there as well with say two tabs opened all the way. That should get you to 10 days.

If you elect to not use the cover, I would take the FC up to SLAM level of 20 and still use the floater with a couple tabs open all the way.
