Going away

It might work to take your FC to Shock level and let it drift down while you are gone. Might have been a good idea to test it though.

Other is to use a floater and add a few pucks. When you get home take into account the extra CYA added.

Take care.

Bringing your FC up to shock level is just fine for 3 days. You will lose more than 3 ppm/day at that level, but you should come home to a clear pool and some FC remaining.

with it that high if you use pucks it would start to get up so if you did get algae it would be difficult slam, the calculation is easy but if you do when you get back you will probably be using 70 as your new CYA even though it will not add a full 10 of cya. So I like slam level and cover if you can, if you can't cover I would consider a few pucks, Also water replacement would be pretty easy if you had to, my big beef would be loss of heat as new water would be colder, if you have heat or are not big on night swimming it may not matter.

Unless I am reading chart wrong, shock level is at 24 for FC at 60 for CYA. But the sun will burn off way more than 3 per day at that level it is not linear. If covered, I believe it will work. If not leaving till Sat. could do a test tomorrow. Each 3" puck will add 3.6 FC and and 2.2 of CYA to a 15,000 gal pool. You would need 3 pucks in a floater to cover you, plus I would also bring up to shock level. Here is a thread for more info.

Your right 24....but I have been losing just 3ppm everyday since I opened the pool in May, so I don't know why your saying I'm gonna lose more than 3 if I go away. I leave tomorrow so if I get it to 24 the morning by Monday morning I should be at a decent level

You've been losing 1/3 of your chlorine every day (9 to 6). If you start at 24 and lose 1/3, you'll lose 8ppm the first day... 5.3 the second day, and so on.

It won't quite be that much, since only chlorine lost to the sun will work that way. But with higher initial FC you should lose it much faster.

No.

Do you have a timer? If not, leave the pump on. And look into getting a timer installed when you get back.

Take care.

Yes I do have a timer, unfortunately I am having problems with it it has been recently tripping the circuit breaker that is hooked up to, I thought it was the outlet I changed the outlet and it still doing it I currently have the motor running on a different line and it is working fine it has not tripped or nothing the problem is the timer is hooked up to the other Outlet which has been shutting off so I don't know what the problem is. So that's why I'm going to leave it on the other line but like I said it's not hooked up to the timer, cuz it's possible that the timer is what's causing the problem
