This is my Second year with a pool. My first year I blindly followed a FB group's direct of "3 chlorine tablets and a weekly dose of shock" and thought I was maintaining a "clear" pool. I was being kind and posted to fellow members on the FB group for above ground pools about a yearly Sam's sale and another member kindly informed me about CYA and to watch my levels. I quickly jumped into the rabbit hole of pool chemistry and that lead me to this group. I ditched the strips, got a real test kit including fas dpd.
I found out my CYA was 120. I did a half drain, refill, balanced, added 25 lbs of boric acid, and switched to a steady diet of liquid chlorine and I can't believe the difference. Now my pool is CLEAR and SPARKLY.
