Hello there.
I’m Gianluca, 53, native Italian and resident in Michigan since 2021, arrived here to eventually marry my half orange.
The backyard of our house was big enough and my wife showed up one day with an inflatable pink flamingo and asked: “Where’s the pool?”.
It was end of August so I told her, why not? But is a next spring one big project.
I committed buying in January an entry level 12x24 metal structure vinyl above ground pool to start, not knowing I would have spent more than 3 times the initial pool kit purchase cost to be able to even unbox it on a self made decently leveled sand base in the rear spot if the backyard where the City allowed me to after several project rejections
.
In Michigan pools are open Memorial Day to Labour day and mine was ready just after that.
I was eventually able to start (trying) applying the basic notions I acquired with an online basic course and manual.
After one month the water started getting cloudy and few days later a horrible green color replaced the light blue I have been diving in.
I made all possible mistakes recirculating that nasty greeny Darn for days (my fault) and the poor minimal sand filter (17lbs) was just waving a white flag.
After a triple shock, floc and starting vacuuming to waste, I started seeing the water sloooooowly getting back from green to milky white and then sloooowly more transparent from day to day.
Disappointed by how slow the water was improving, I ordered another sand filter with a salt water chlorinator (Intex Krystal Clear 2150 GPH Sand Filter Pump & Saltwater System with E.C.O.) to make another small step ahead.
While waiting it to show up, I asked Google if I could mix 100lbs of silica sand with the 20 pounds of the ZeoSand and this forum showed up.
The post I read was packed with the details that explained several issues I had…
And here I am, eager to learn and, who knows, return something some day!
