Getting started in Southeast Texas!

I feel better after talking to the pb this morning. They said the saw marks in the gunite aren't a big deal. They will redo the grout. It doesn't look bad but it isn't what I picked. So I told them to let me think about it and decide if I wanted it changed. I think I was just disappointed last night. But I trust my pb and know they will fix it!

Looking great so far! Everything can be fixed believe me! The only thing that hasn't been torn out and replaced on my pool is the shell. My shell also has cut marks in it now I think that is pretty common from cutting the tile in there. I guess they do it right on the surface. Why do they do that I have no clue.

Did I see in your original post that your decking is pea gravel? Will it be loose? I would worry that would get into the pool all the time.

We didn't get much done last week because it rained. every. day. But this week we have made tons of progress! Tile and coping were done. We opted to keep the gray grout on the waterline tile instead of redoing it. But we had them reset the glass tile in the spa with white thinset instead of gray.

The waterline tile looks so different when it is wet. Really brings out all the colors like natural stone when wet. That was a nice unexpected surprise. I love it!

Glass tile in the spa. Love it too! Wish I could put it everywhere, every surface. Now I know why everyone raves about glass tile. It really is gorgeous!

A few more picks of the overall look. It is really coming together

You can tell in the background that they are almost done framing the patio extension. My husband will wrap the trusses, beams, and columns in cedar once it is done. The interior ceiling will be tongue and groove. But he plans on taking his time and finishing that out himself. This morning the decking crew is here! There are about 15 guys in the backyard working. It is possible they might pour this afternoon but if not, they will pour in the am. We have pebble tech scheduled for Sat, Mon, Tues. I can't believe it!

I have one more decision I have to make today. We are going with Tahoe blue pebbletech. I love the aqua blue color.

Thanks to ummgood and the rain delay, I discovered the luminous bead crete that you can add to any pebble finish. I was already thinking about adding the abalone shells. We discussed it with the pb and he said the abalone adds a little sparkle but in the pools they have used the glass beads on the water looks spectacular! We got a quote for $550 to add the shells and $1970 to add the glass beads. The husband says if I want it, do it. But I haven't made up my mind. I think it will look gorgeous. But using that $ would delay us finishing our outdoor kitchen. What to do, what to do?

I think if we add the glass beads we would go with the blue mix. I was leaning towards the jade but I am worried it would make the water too green. Opinions? Add it or not? Jade or blue blend? Help! I have to make a decision by the end of the day!

We went with a pebble sheen that included abelone shell. We rely like it. We passed on the beads, but our project was a refurbish of a 1974 pool so we wanted to modernize , but fit the character of our 70's era two story colonial.

My thought would be to add the glass beads and delay the kitchen a bit. The glass beads can't be added later without a LOT more cost so it is a permanent decision. Only you know what you will be able to afford in the coming years. If you think the kitchen would be delayed past where you are comfortable then you know what decision you have to make. Frankly if it was my pool I wouldn't have paid for the glass beads.

As far as the color I think Jade would go really well with your glass tile. I just honestly don't know how it will effect the water color. I know that tahoe blue can have a greenish effect anyway. I don't think you'll find an example of a pool with the Jade beads yet as it is too new and the people who have it probably had a pool builder who was willing to experiment because it wasn't a 'product' before.

And on PebbleTec's website there is a Jade colored pebble tec (not the luminous) that might be what your pool would be similar to after adding the jade glass. Hmmm decisions decisions...

Somehow I missed the last few comments! We decided on the blue blend luminous beads added to Tahoe Blue pebble tec. My husband really didn't want it to be too green. We got pebble tec on Wed and acid wash this am. It is now filling with water!! So excited to be able to swim for Labor Day weekend!

After acid wash. It is so hard to capture the sparkle on camera. But it is really pretty! There are a mix of light blue, dark blue, Aqua, clear, and irredescent beads

Sorry guys! Yesterday was busy. The pool took much longer to fill up than we thought. The later it got the more concerned we got that we wouldn't be able to do start up yesterday. And then our PB tells us around 1 o'clock that they will be out of town until Tues due to the holiday so if it didn't fill by Fri afternoon we would have to wait until Tues!! we added a hose from the neighbors yard and when they showed up at 4:00 it had just finished filling enough to turn the pumps on. Phew!! We made it in the nick of time. I was stressed!
Here are a few more pics during filling.

The start up guy came around 4:00. They had decided to do a "partial start up" since the pool was a few inches shy of where they wanted it. Basically they added chemicals and started the pumps so we could swim this weekend. They will come back on Tues and treat the water some more, bring our vacuum, net, brush etc. we borrowed the neighbors brush so we could get started. Now we just had to wait 8 hours to be able to jump in. It was looking pretty swamy when we went to bed but when we got up this morning ----it was clear!! Clear and beautiful! Too bad it was raining. Lol. But the rain stopped and they jumped in asap.

Sometimes it pays to be to always be the first one up! Brother got the pool to himself while the others slept in. It was still very cloudy and I was starting to think we paid for the luminous for no good reason. And then the sun came out...and this happened...

I think the color and sparkle will get even better!!
