Thanks in advance for any input. 33,000 gal vinyl liner inground pool, sand filter, Hayward pump. Purchased T 100 kit with extra regents. Tested last night.
PH 8.4
FC 0
TA 140
CYA maybe 20- note I am sure I am overthinking seeing the dot, but I did watch video several times and saw some good tips how to look for it in a thread here so it may be more accurate than I think.
Added 6 pounds stabilizer late last night(of pool math recommended 8, thunderstorm interfered), and now I get 35 CYA. Should I take this up more before doing the pH and slam, I'm concerned I'm not reading the test properly and might be higher than I think.
I have some DE, would it be a good time to add to filter? Pool is total algae swamp. I'm concerned about backwashing also. I wonder in past years if we were backwashing too much and making things worse/losing chemicals.
Anyhow, going to get acid to deal with the pH today. Is there anything else I should do before starting the slam? Oh, and it looks like thunderstorms on and off all weekend, but I want to proceed. Any adjustments to make because of the rain?

Leave your CYA at what you call 35... round up to 40. SLAM based on a CYA of 40 with your target found in this FC/CYA Levels. Lower pH to 7.2. Then proceed to SLAM Process.

Do not add DE to your sand filter until you get toward the end of your SLAM. If you do so now, it will raise the pressure very quickly and you will be forced to repeatedly backwash.

No adjustments because of rain except you're gonna get wet ;-)

Good advice above. If your pool is really, really swampy with algae, this may help.......

Get your pH down into the mid 7's first. Then, before you add the first dose of SLAM value chlorine, turn your multiport valve to "recirculate" and run the pump 24/7. After 24 hours or so, I am hoping you will have reduced the bulk of the algae you are dealing with. Then switch the multiport to the "filter" position and follow the SLAM process exactly.

Yuck. And yet 46 gal later, we are here! I am so excited! FC only dropped to 14 from 16 since I got home! Got lucky and it wasn't sunny all day. I'm gonna win. I really really like doing this myself. Pool store was slowing me down! Thank you so much for all the good info and be encouraging when folks are ready to give up! 20190708_173727.jpg

Here we are yesterday afternoon
to this morning - different lighting/time of day, but definite improvement! Still using half of FC overnight. I had to be out of town for 8 hours yesterday, FC down from 16 to 3.5 by the time I got back! So I think I must have lost a little edge yesterday. I will not be going anywhere for more than two hours at a time the rest of the week. My question today is, is it safe for me to get in and scrub the ladders at slam level FC? I'm brushing, but I could get all the little spaces behind there better with a rag. My sample collection arm is ok, so I'm thinking probably yes, but just wondering. Thanks
