Getting Pentair Heat Pump to start Pool Pump

Yes, you can set a temperature differential.

Gas heaters get heat from the gas. So, there's no difference in heating from different weather or day/night.

Solar and Heat Pumps get heat from the environment. So, they work best during the day in hot weather.

What are your nighttime air temperatures and what is your water set temperature?

Our night time temps are typically low to mid 60s in the summer. I have the pool set to 80 but it doesn't seem to want to get there. It's been heating to 78 but it has been a mild few days for us whether wise.

Tomorrow night we are actually dipping down to 48 :(

If nighttime temperatures are lower than the water temperature plus the differential, the heater shouldn't turn on.

You can raise or lower the differential setting if needed.

If you're not using a solar cover, it would make a big difference in the amount of heat lost at night.

Also, the solar sensor should ideally be outside of the box but in the shade to get an accurate air temperature.

The box can tend to stay warmer inside than the outside air.
