Getting a little nervous

Hi everyone!

My first month into pool ownership and I think (thought?) I'm getting a handle on water chemistry but my last test has me a little worried. When I opened the pool, my CYA was 0. I've slowly been introducing CYA and I finally have it somewhere between 70 & 80. I've been running my SWG at 30-40 from 8:00am to 4:00pm.

Test on 6/1

FC: 7.5
CC: .5
PH: 7.6
TA: 140
CH: 270
CYA: 65
Salt: 2800

After this test, I added half a bucket of conditioner. The weather has also been cold and rainy during the week in between this test and the next.

Test on 6/8

FC: 4.5
CC: .5
PH: 8+
TA: 140
CH: 290
CYA: 75
Salt: 2600

After this test, I added 5lb jug of clorox PH reducer. I wanted to add a bag or 2 of salt but wasn't sure if I should be dumping multiple things into the pool at the same time.

Any advice would be awesome. Thanks!!!

The only two chemicals you don't want to add ad the same time are acid and bleach. I wait about 5 minutes between, but I also pour real slow in front of a return jet so you can see everything mix in before it hits the bottom.

I'd bring the FC up to 7-8 range and then read up on SWG. I think you need to be over 3000 for salt but I'm not an expert.

K,

Are you sure you have a T9 cell? I ask because the T9 is rate for a 25K pool and you have a 30K pool...

We always recommend a cell that is 2 x the volume of the pool, so this would make your cell too small for your pool.

I see where your FC readings went down between your two tests... I would recommend either increasing your SWCG's output or increasing your run time.

Unfortunately, cells are rate when running at 100% and 24/7..

With a CYA of 80 you need to keep your FC around 6 ppm and you never want it to drop below 4 ppm

Thanks for posting,

Jim R.

Thanks for the info! I definitely have a T9 cell and I'm pretty sure my pool is somewhere between 25-30K. It shaped somewhat like a kidney with 39' length and 19' width at the widest part. I would say average depth is around 6'. We are new homeowners and we inherited all the equipment, so I'm not sure what what they were thinking when they installed everything.
