The water is still really cloudy, I've been told that alege partials are too small. Was I given incorrect information?
Yes you were given wrong info. The cloudiness is in fact algae which is either live or dead but it still needs to clear up via the slam method.

I'm not sure the CYA test was accurate because the water is so cloudy. You could see the cloudiness ever in the test tubes..

Based on your test numbers, you simply need to increase (and maintain) an FC of "28" using liquid chlorine until you pass all 3 SLAM criteria noted on the SLAM Process. At this point, you really only need to test the FC periodically throughout the day so that you can see how well it's holding at that proper level. Add liquid chlorine as needed. You can ignore the TA, CH, and pH testing until after the SLAM Process. You don't have to test the CC after every FC test, but are welcome to if you wish. Follow the SLAM Process carefully for best success. Let us know if you have any other questions.
No floc....NO clarifier! I realize water rates are high in CA, but you might be better served with the high cost of chlorine these days to at least partially drain that pool and replace water. Less to fight and while down...a lot easier to scoop crud out. That is a must.

Correct. If you look at the FC/CYA Levels and enter your current CYA of 70, you'll see that your SLAM FC level should be "28". You need to increase and do your best to maintain that FC of 28 until you pass all 3 SLAM criteria.
You also can save reagent at least at this point in the game by using 5ml and count each and every droplet for "1ppm" FC. This will give you a ball park number to see the progress of the slam.

70 CYA is the tipping point for SLAM. 60 is doable. 80 is hard. 70 can be either way. If you want to replace 10-20% would be ok.

I think slam is a given just by the picture the OCLT isn't necessary as you need to keep going.
Ok, Thanks for all your encouragement, everyone... I find this a daunting process. but I'm hanging in there. I appreciate all the help sooooo much.
I'll be gone tomorrow, so I'll just put a gallon in the morning before we leave.... I think Sunday I'll exchange some of the water. I think a lot of it might be dirt. we found out the neighbor was draining his backyard overflow into our yard. He actually had a hose sticking through the fence. Plus, the heavy rains this winter really messed the pool up. at least the pool no longer has that rotting leaves smell to it anymore. I'm sure you hear these stories a lot, but I so appreciate all your feedback and quick responses.
