Getting a Jandy TrueClear replacement SWG cell

Ok. Based on the SLAM process, I should not test / add more chlorine often than every two hrs. So I should test / add chlorine (if needed) every two hrs. And I should just keep FC level to 16. Will check to make sure CYA is 30 ppm or higher. Then do the SLAM now since pool calcs recommends 1 gal of liq. chlorine. No need to measure :giggle: Mahalo!

Two hours is not a hard limit. Check FC as often as you want. You will see when your FC is not dropping and you can extend the intervals between testing.

:) understood. I checked CYA and it was 40. Added 1 gal. of chlorine per pool calc. Will check and keep FC at 16. Need to buy a few more gal. of liquid chlorine.

Started the SLAM process. All per pool calc. 1 gal. initially, after around 3 hrs. FC= 12.5. Added 49 oz chlorine. After around 3 hrs. FC=13. Added 48 oz. Question, since chlorine gets consumed by sunlight, which is a lot here in HI. Getting FC up is going to be difficult , right? Shouldn't I dump more chlorine than what pool calc is saying ( not that I don't trust the app) to get my FC to 16 (or higher). Is it bad to stay above 16? Sunlight is going to consume it anyway. Will check FC again after 3 hrs.

Pool Math does not know the actual strength of your liquid chlorine.

Add as much as necessary to get it to 16.

Raising the chlorine higher just wasted it.

Yes, the FC will drop during the day with the sun UV. Top it back off to 16.

Just tested and FC = 15 :giggle: Added 16 oz. chlorine. Will test tonight and hopefully it's at 16. Then check tomorrow before sunlight and hopefully / maybe CC is still 0 and chlorine loss is also 0 🙏
Thank you for continually reading this post and helping me.

So since Saturday , here are my FC numbers during the SALM process:.
Added 1 gal. of liq. chlorine
11:20 AM - 12.5 (added 25 oz)
2:20 PM - 13 (added 48 oz.)
5:30 PM - 15 (added 16 oz.)
8:30 PM - 15 (added 16 oz.)
Sunday
6:00 AM - 14 (added 36 oz liq. chlorine) .
7:00 AM - Then I wondered if I checked pH before starting SLAM. So I checked and it was 8.2 then added 24 oz. MA Re-read the SLAM process and it said pH levels are inaccurate during SLAM process. Oh well, hopefully, I did not screw up the SLAM process.
9:00 AM - 15 (added 24 oz.)
12:30 PM - 15 (added 34 oz.)
2:40 PM - 17 (woohoo!!)
5:30 PM - 17 (die critters!!!)
Monday
6:30 AM - 17 (am I done yet? :giggle: ) I also checked CC=0. CYA is 40
Pool looks clear. I did brush on Saturday and there were "dust cloud" at the bottom of the pool when I brushed it. I also did a backwash but did not seem to be cloudy/dirty in the sight glass.

Per SLAM process, I seem to pass all three tests. I still have over 3 gal. of liq. chlorine to maintain my FC at 16 for the rest of the day. R-0871 is running low but still good for ~5 tests. I ordered more reagent. What's my next step? If I'm done with the SLAM process - bring my FC back to ~7? Sunlight will just do the rest eating up the chlorine, right? Thank you to everyone!

Looks good.

Just let the sun lower your FC until you get to your FC target and then turn up your SWG.

Can I increase my CYA now or wait for the FC to lower at a certain level before I increase my CYA? I need 2 lbs. 12.02 oz of dry stabilizer. I'm 12.02 oz short .
Once I'm at a SW chorine level, then turn on my SWG (?)

Add the dry stabilizer as soon as you have it.

Just finished diluting the dry stabilizer (sock method). How long before I can test? Anyway, I did test my water after stabilizer addition.
pH - 7.2 (first time I've seen my pH this low. Always 8.2)
FC - 15
CC - 0
TC - 15
CH - 475 (Nice! I've always wanted to bring down my calcium but did not want to dump water. It's always been very high)
TA - 70
CYA - 50
Salt - 2000 (I just checked so I know how much I need to add when I've got my SWG cell installed).

I'll test again tomorrow and probably add more stabilizer (?).

Pool is very clear ! I thought my water was already clear before. I have to say that this forum is the best! I never wanted to maintain my pool since I was scared of all the "chemistry" behind the maintenance and I never really liked chemistry :ROFLMAO:. I am much more comfortable now in maintaining my pool and have a better understanding of what and why chemicals are added. Mahalo nui loa (thank you very much) to everyone! 🏝️

How long before I can test?
Allow at least 48 hours before adding any more...in rare circumstances I have seen 4 days before full register.

I've always wanted to bring down my calcium but did not want to dump water. It's always been very high
Calcium can only be removed by replacing water, or reverse osmosis filtering. You might also test your fill water for CH...

Read this:

(I just checked so I know how much I need to add when I've got my SWG cell installed).

Great job! Don't want to over add....

Calcium of 475 is not high. CH is manageable up to about 800.

If you added CYA assume it is in the water and use the calculated level for your FC. Test in about a week. Whatever it is , it is good for you right now.

Of course I will continually support TFP!

I still have over 3 gal. of liq. chlorine that I purchased for the SLAM. But since I've already passed the test for the SLAM I don't have any use for them anymore. Instead of running my pool in salt water, can I use up the liquid chlorine before I switch back to SW? Not a big deal if I just keep the chlorine and just install my SWG cell and dump the salt I already purchased but just wondering.

I still have to find my leak......

You can use the liquid chlorine you have to chlorinate your pool for a few more days.

I like to always have a few gallons of liquid chlorine on hand. Just in case my SWG gets sick or I need a chlorine boost for some reason. So I would hold onto those leftover jugs just in case your SWG does not start up as planned.

Yeah! Makes sense. I should run my SWG cell first and see if it works fine.
