Germicidal Bleach??

Hey guys,

So I made my first foray into following the advice here for the (liquid) chemicals to fix my algae issue (see other thread).

Anyway, I went to Home Depot to get muriatic acid. It was in the paint section, but the vexing thing is that there were no percentages anywhere on the label. It was recommended that I use the 32% MA. Is it normal not to be labeled? Are they all usually the same percentage?

While I was at Home Depot I took a look at the bleach and I'm just shocked how expensive plain old Clorox is here in NH... $3.30 / gallon!

But next to it I spied a bottle of HDX (house brand) "Germicidal" bleach so I looked at the label and saw 8.25% Sodium Hypochlorite which it says "Yields 7.86% Free Chlorine".

Clorox also had a Germicidal version but no where near those numbers.

It doesn't look like there are any other additives so am I safe to assume the "germicidal" refers only to its increased strength?

Welcome to the forum! :handshake:

That will work. Be sure to check the date. There is a number 18XXX on the bottle. The XXX represents the number of days in 2018 the bottle was filled. Look for stuff less than a couple months old.

Our Home Depot has Liquid Chlorine and Muriatic acid in the Garden Center (outside). Not the best on the chlorine as it is very hot. But I do not need it in the summer with my SWCG.

I have a friend back in Toronto (my home town) who is in the SWCG business (a family business).

I was planning to buy one when I was back there a couple of weeks ago because I don't really have two outlets by the pool, just one. At least for now between I do until I do a bit of wiring.

Do you think the Hayward 1hp pump and a SWCG can live on the same 20A circuit?

Also, how bulky is the SWCG... it connects inline from the filter return to the pool wall right? I've got an AG so I'm wonder how heavy it is and whether it will put too much load on the wall. Also what else does it need other than salt in the water and a source of electricity?

Thanks Marty!

Speaking of nice finds in the bleach aisle, I found these guys at Walmart.

How does $3.64 / gallon of 10% stack up ? Should I clear out the shelves?

Here in New England, if there is one in your area, the best place to get chlorine is at Ocean State Job Lot. They sell 12.5% for $2.99 a gallon.
