From a Basic Lawn to Private Resort - We Have A Pool! Controlling Pollen...

Day 2 of bonding with our new baby is under way. I'm working to make this quick efficient work especially during the 8am watering with temps at freezing right now. This morning, I had the impact sprinkler focused on the bench and walls across from the spa, deep end corner bench and walls, and then moved it to the baja shelf and entry steps while I watered the bond beam, spa, and walls and corner bench on the left side of the pool. I'm able to give it a good soaking in 45 mins per session today versus the 1 hour per session yesterday. I'm also watering the equipment pad. I had some rubber boots delivered from walmart as the $20 investment is worth it considering the terrain I have to scale for the next few days. It's supposed to rain tomorrow which I am gladly welcoming 😂.

Hi TFP,

Nothing much going on over here, just watering our pool 3 to 5 times a day. We are at day 7. I noticed a hairline crack in the bottom step the other day, but it's not wide enough for hydro cement (I know I'm probably calling this the wrong thing), so I read up here and noticed old threads with comments that state that the plaster will cover it. I do plan to get pictures of it today for record keeping. I was walking the spa during watering the other day and it dawned on me that we need a step up into the spa because I'm not about that seated leg swinging over life and plus if our parents want to enjoy the spa when they visit, I don't want it to be an inconvience for them. I got it priced out and it's $645 to add the step and it's worth it in my opinion. We also are considering a safety ladder on the right wall of the deep end but I think we'll have the pb to just add the sockets for it in the decking and we can add it later if we choose to. Has anyone had this pre-plumbed before? I was thinking this may be useful in the future even though we have the swim out benches available as well. I definitely am against $2600 to the pb for the ladder, taxes, and labor at this point.

It rained most of the day today and our shell looks like this as of this evening. When we're watering over the past 9 days it doesn't look like this. Is our pool leaking mud? First picture is yesterday after the noon watering, the rest are from this evening.20230324_112411.jpg20230325_193535.jpg20230325_193543.jpg20230325_193547.jpg20230325_193550.jpg20230325_193556.jpg20230325_193604.jpg20230325_193622.jpg

So we have a 100% chance of rain today and I'm keeping an eye on the mud that appears to be seeping into our pool shell. Today I noticed a leak in the left corner bench. @Newdude, @kimkats, @mknauss, @PoolGate, @ajw22 have any of you seen this before? I plan to send pictures to PB and discuss what I'm seeing, but need some advice. Is the mud and leak a big issue or will plaster address it? The mud is a big deal for me, well they both are but I want to know if this is normal or not. Thank you all so much!!!

I am not a gunite expert, but that stream of water coming through it is not a good sign.

Let's have some others chime in.

Thanks mk! I sent the pictures to the Pool Supervisor and the owner a few minutes ago. Hopefully someone can give us some advice.

Per PB, this is normal as waterproofing hasn't been done yet and this happens all the time. Thoughts? I am pleased with their response time 😊

Holes/gaps in the shell at this point are keeping it from floating, and the water coming in naturally is bringing some dirt in with it. They'll seal all the holes with hydraulic cement and then plaster over it. (y)

Happy Monday! Tile and Stonework has started this morning. I checked the 6×6 waterline and 1×2 spa face/trim tiles and the splitface stone for the spa before they got started. The travertine coping is not here yet. We have a really good PB so far and the subs are really nice and have been very professional thus far. There was an issue with the spa face/trim 1× 2 tile. It came in but it doesn't look like the showroom sample even though the box clearly has the correct name listed. There was no metallic/sparkle quality to the tile and it was a darker blue than the sample, so they had me go in and select a new 1× 2 tile. I ended up going with NPT Equinox. Glad we were able to catch it before it went in. They are also pumping out all of the water from the rain we've gotten over the last few weeks. Things are still progressing nicely! 😊

What We Ordered vs What We Got in first and second photos. New Selection in the 3rd photo.

My builder left the pump in my shell so I could keep pumping it out. They left 2 holes in the bottom of the shell for groundwater to enter during the build. Between that and rain - I was running it quite often.
Yes, that would be helpful! We even thought to buy one or two for it ourselves, but they've been good about pumping everything as soon as they arrive on-site. Nice to see a fellow Georgian actively in these threads!

@kimkats do you think that the light gray grout will work well with the NPT Equinox Midnight 1×2 tile? Thanks for your help! Quick decisions in progress... Here's the work for the day 😊20230410_191410.jpg20230410_191406.jpg20230410_191359.jpg20230410_191347.jpg20230410_191345.jpg20230410_191342.jpg

I DO think it will work great! It will really set off those oh so pretty tiles! I would not go any darker though. The light gray is what I would pick for sure!

I am guessing they had that in stock? I am SO glad you did catch the mix up. THIS is why I try to say be there when big things are happening! WELL DONE!

Thank you and yes, working from home 100% has it's advantages, but I was under the weather today so it still worked out.

The tile work is for the most part looking good. I don't know how I feel about the skimmer work though and the grout seems darker. I know that I can probably let it ride because we won't be swimming in the skimmer and when the pool is full of water we won't notice, but I really want some other opinions on the tile work on the skimmer. By the way both skimmers look the same, so I just uploaded one photo.

I see what you mean about the skimmer. Someone was tired or not skilled enough to get those cuts just right. I am hoping the grout is darker due to it being a bit wet yet. It is up to you if you have them redo that piece on the right, front side. I would think about it but also worry they might cause more harm than good so.................
