Frog Egg Buffet

Hello! Thanks to TFP my pool is sparkling clean, clear as day, just gorg! I’m having an odd (but probably common) issue here: every morning my pool is full of frog eggs, and occasionally a few frogs.

Of course I’ve been googling and sifting through the TFP forum to find a solution and the only things I really see suggested are to put a critter log in, or keep chlorine a little high.

I thought I’d rid myself of the issue by keeping chlorine a tad high and leaving the filter running on nights when it rains (they seem to come more often in the rain) and they seemed to disappear for a few weeks but now they’re back. I keep all exterior lights off so I’m not attracting them.

The main issue is that my neighbor has abandoned their above ground pool and left it for 1000 frogs to fornicate in 😄 It’s about 15 feet away from my pool/yard and despite a solid 7’ fence, nothing is deterring them. The other side of my yard is bordered by a creek so you can see how the frog sources are ever refilling 😅

What do I do? Nothing keeps these guys out it seems! The entire surface of the pool ends up patchworked in frog eggs, they’re too small to scoop in my net, and then they sink to the bottom and I have to vacuum every morning! It’s just a lot!

What am I missing? What else can I do?

That's a tough one. I remember waking up to find strings of eggs in the pool at times. Unless you can keep the frogs out, they will make your pool their little love shack depository. I don't think the chlorine level will do much to detract them. Not sure if installing some sort or barrier around the perimeter would help (probably lots of work) or perhaps some sort of repellant around the perimeter of the pool?

Let's see if any other members know of a good way to keep Kermit and friends out of the pool.

Any chance you can convince the neighbor to drain their swamp?

That would probably be the ideal solution. We just moved in this summer so I’m trying not to be that neighbor with the complaints. But it seems like a nuisance to keep a frog pool in your backyard so maybe I’m not the problem! Lol
Maybe an opportunity to help them clean it up and get the pool working again. Might be an easier angle to take.
