Good afternoon,
This Friday I am getting a new liner installed. I am excited to open fresh and not have to slam for what feels like forever. My question is do I add the conditioner sock first before adding anything else, or go ahead and add chlorine while I'm waiting for it to dissolve? My other question is how soon do test kits expire? Mine was bought not last summer but the one before that. I'm assuming its expired. Can anyone link me to the most affordable test kit that will have all that i need?

You should add 3 ppm FC worth of liquid chlorine and get your CYA dissolving as soon as the water is in the pool.

This kit will have every thing you need. Highly suggest getting the speed stir with it.

my liner replacement got delayed until yesterday, it is just now being filled. do i get it up to 3ppm free chlorine based on 0 cya or the 40 that it will be when sock dissolves?

The 3 ppm is based on the volume of the pool, independent of the CYA.

Water, circulation, bleach, CYA, test pH & TA and adjust, throw kids in. You needn't wait for the CYA to dissolve to move on. Kids could be in the pool long before it will warm up enough to be inviting to you.

The CYA should be dissolved and ready to test in about two days. Until then, target 3 FC. After that, base it on the CYA and it'll be like the good times in the past, without the SLAMs.
