Foreclosure With Neglected Pool, Please Help!

I ran some more tests today and had a question about the ta result. What should my target be? I measured it at 130, does this seem like an ok number? My pH is 7.4, cya I think is between 40-50 so should I go with the higher number of 50? I could barely make out the dot at 50.

CYA is 50, you want to round up to the next line.

When your PH drifts up you’ll lower with MA, and that will lower your TA some as well.

So I have another quick question. The pool is looking great, bit we are really burning through the chlorine. I'm adding at least a gallon a day! So my question is, I'm getting in the habit of checking in the evening and adding bleach. I've checked a few times and we were at 1 or 2 fc, which is lower than the minimum. Should I be checking more than once per day? If it drops that much is going to hurt anything as long as I get more chlorine in by the evening?

Using the pool a lot? That will burn up more chlorine. Have you checked in am to see what it is, after dosing in pm? May want to do that.

Let’s get a firmer handle on your CYA. If it is only 40, you could bump up to 50.

That can be one of the problems with cya on the lower range (30). The sun can burn off the FC too quickly and you get dangerously low which could lead to an algae outbreak. That's the exact reason why I increased mine to 50 and never let FC fall below 4. I usually dose to 8 PPM and when I check the following day, I'm usually only somewhere in the 6 range so I have some leeway in case I can't get to it right away or I happen to miss a day. Of course the more use you get out of your pool with swimming will use the FC up even faster. That's another factor to account for besides the temperature as well.

I bought 4 lb of stabilizer today to get going in the pool this evening. I tested cya today and the dot didn't quite disappear at 30, I'm going to add all 4 lb to try to bring it up to around 50.

I tested the cya last week and it was over 40, getting close to 50. Any reason why I'm now showing less than 30? We have had some rain. Maybe testing error also? I've added a total of 8 lb of stabilizer since I first started my slam so I would think I would be at 40.

Covering the pool will dramatically reduce your chlorine consumption, if it is covered during the day.

If you will primarily only cover it at night, it will NOT have a dramatic effect.

Take care.
