Wanted to follow up on a previous post here now that I am a few days out from leaving for 2 weeks.

Was having some trouble maintaining FC as my SWG is a little undersized and we had some early hot weather in late May/early June. Was running the SWG at 80% for 17 hrs a day and it couldn’t keep up. CYA was a little low at 60.

Regardless the pool FC has been better since adding CYA and bumping the SWG % and pump run time to 100 for 23hrs. In fact have not added bleach since and reduced SWG % since FC levels started creeping up (9, 11, etc). Turned it back down to 80% for 20 hours and it dropped to 7-7.5. I am now at 100% for 20 hours and we are back up to 8.5 so for the current weather and usage we seem to be in a good spot and I am more confident the SWG can keep up.

Advice was to get FC up to SLAM level before leaving and have a neighbor check for water loss while we are gone and to add a few tabs to supplement the fc and CYA.

Question 1- should I still SLAM before leaving? Seems like the SWG can keep up, though the forecast looks to be sunny and warm/hot for the next two weeks (last two weeks we’ve had some cloudy days and less heat, so that has no doubt helped the FC levels).

Question 2 - should I still put a couple of tabs in the floater? If so, what kind and how many? I have never bought tabs so have no clue what to get. Still seems like it might be a good idea especially to keep the pH in check?

I have a neighbor who is going to drop by once or twice to check the water level, empty the skimmers of crepe Myrtle blooms, etc. and can probably do a basic FC and ph test.

Thanks!

You could bump your CYA up to help. My FC was struggling to stay around 5 ( been out of town a lot ) and haven’t checked my CYA all year.
Tested it and it was 30, raised it to 80 and the 2 day later with out any other changes my FC was 10.
Option B is just get a couple gallons of pool chlorine or a few bags of “shock” and have him add them once or twice.
But best advice is don’t stress over a pool on vacation 😎

Good point on the no stress! I’m new to this and don’t want to screw it all up…
