fluctuating psi

Lately I been observing my filter exhibiting a psi that will suddenly either drop or increase psi (~+/-- 5psi). What could cause this issue? this mainly occurs with the suction from the pool opened and the spa closed. Also is it standard to have the filter psi higher with suction from the spa to be higher than with the suction from the pool. Hopefully I explained it correctly.

It could be caused by air being pulled from the suction side of the pump. Significant air will disrupt the water flow and can cause surging and psi fluctuations.

Common causes are low water level (e.g air being pulled into the pool skimmers), leaky unions (especially the union on the pump suction side itself) or damaged pipework.

Can you see air in the pump basket during the psi changes?

702,

You might want to check your skimmer's weir door. If the weir door gets stuck up, it will cause the water to surge.

Filter pressure is almost always higher when in the spa mode. Filter pressure is really how much effort it takes to force water through the filter and back to the pool or spa. The spa jets are usually much more restrictive and cause higher back pressure. Kind of like putting your finger over the end of the hose.

Thanks,

Jim R.
