Last week we had a major flash flood in which the creek behind our house went from 2-3’ deep to 15-20’ deep, sadly that meant our pool was over taken by the flood waters.I have attached before and after pictures of our pool, as you can see it was crystal clear prior to a week and a day ago and now we’ll i just want to cry.
I guess we should start with some basics, 33,000 gallons I was told, we have a sand filter and a valve with several options including; filter, recirculate, rinse, backwash and waste. I haven’t tested the water yet. Most of the debris is field waste there is some gravel in the deep end that washed out from around our deck.
I have cleared to top off and we no longer have floating debris, I have also vacuumed the shallow end and worked some on the deep end. I have ran the filter for 2 hrs at a time then rinsed and backwashes some. I was hoping to avoid the expense of chemicals until the pool was cleaner because quite honestly I don’t see them doing much good at this point.
When I rinse the filter and backwash you can see an obvious difference once the silt is mostly out of the sand filter. As I vacuum the deep end the vacuum keep getting clogged with corn cobs and mud. I don’t expect miracles but with the mercury topping 90 today and a 4 and 6 year old the faster the better, I am prepared for weeks of cleaning though while secretly hoping for 5-7 days.

This is our first pool I struggled to get it opened because the previous owner left it in less than ideal condition. I have a basic understanding and that might be a generous evaluation of my pool know how. Hope to goodness our brand new solar cover isn’t wrecked.
