Fix A Small Coupler Leak

Hi, our pool plumbing is 3 years old, we have a small leak at a valve coupler shown in the picture. Our pool contractor was a huge disaster so calling him is not an option. I still question what else may be wrong.

Anyway, looking for thoughts on this repair.

I know I need a new ball valve, just looking for thoughts on a more straight forward repair fittings wise rather then replacing large section.

Leak is at the orange box, about a drop every 2 seconds but I noticed a decent wet area under the area so that was clue something was off. I would guess they didn't use enough glue and/or get enough insertion. It looks like they used regular pvc cement with the purple primer, all the rest of the joints have a noticeable 1/4" or so of visible glue at the connection but this one doesn't. Also, you can see the angle on the pipe, could this joint being carrying a load somehow that it shouldn't be?

My thought is to cut at the red lines, then get a 2" well casing pipe, cut to length and replace the ball valve.

My other thought would be to cut at the green lines and rebuild this entire area, hang it level so it looks right, and also remove any undue load. Our system only drives a 14x30ish pool, so the system only sees 10psi or so based on the filter reading.

I guess another option would be to use a 2" pipe reamer at each T on the bottom and then repalce with pipe and ball valve.

Thanks

Fred

Welcome to TFP.

Three valves for a heater bypass is a recipe for a problem if a valve is misset.

I suggest you redo the entire section with a heater bypass consisting of a 3 way diverter valve on the heater input and a check valve on the heater output as described in Heater Bypass - Further Reading

We recommend diverter valves always be used. Never ball valves that are not repairable.

Wow, thanks for the quick response. I follow all that, is that standard equipment at a local pool supply house? Thanks again!

Is standard glue up Oatey 2366S Pool-Tite PVC Medium Body Hot Blue Cement and Oatey Purple primer?

Want to get this repaired, its finally pool season!

Thanks again
