First year having to open the pool saltwater NJ

ok OCLT is a fail - FC went from a 15.5 to a 13. gonna bring it up to SLAM level

just added 1.5 gallon brought it back up to a 22 roughly

update:
1.5 gallons of 12.5% brought me up to 18.5 gonna add another 2 quarts see if it brings me up to 20

this sucks cause I am right on the 17-20 FC border teetering back and forth. Im almost out of LQ and also the 871 drops , just ordered more. going to take an OCLT tomorrow AM see what kind of drop if any and go from there.

I think it’s good . Last night was 31 drops to be at 15.5, I didn’t add anything cause I ran out ; just tested it now and it’s at 31-32 drops so right ar the 15.5-16 for FC so I don’t think it lost any (per the test ) so I think I completed my slam.

Just brushed and vacuumed the pool again too. water is very clear

Now I will turn the SWG back on . Need to figure out what % to run at

what is the proper next step? turn the SWG back on I assume, let the pool run its normal 9-10 hr cycle, at what point do I start bringing the CYA up slightly ?

I ran out of test drops so I let the chlorine level itself out while I waited just got the drops so I did a FC CC test and I am at :
FC-8.5
CC-0

I am going to test FC in the morning again and make sure there was no loss and then if that checks out will retest my CYA , PH etc;

Tested same this morning for OCLT FC 8.5 and CC 0

What level should I really keep the pool at I need to retest my CYA abut assuming it’s 50 ish still what should I bring it up to . And what should I keep my FC at ?

Going to aim to bring my cya up to 70 so that if I overshoot and end up at 80 it’s still safe no need to drain / refill

I think I have dichlor shock , and Clorox pool powder stabilizer , but should I just go buy liquid CYA ?

You can but you can also buy the powder and put in a skimmer sock and hang from your pool brush in front of return and it will mix up. Go slow and wait a few days before testing. If the app say use a 1 lb I would go 3/4 of that just in case your pool volume isn't exact and the CYA test I find tough to be 100% sure so I am conservative. Clorox stabilizer will work. Use the pool math app to tell you how much to add and then go slow. I bought this from Amazon.

ok good cause I also need to add salt, my light just came on. I was hoping to finish the stabilizing part first but I'm gonna have to add some

Added 40 lbs of salt cause it dropped and my red salt light came on it tested at 3k trying to get to 32-34 again .

Will retest cya tonight after it’s been 24 hours

Sometimes CYA takes 48 hours, just depends but assume what you put in will get you to the number so don't put too much in or you have to drain water. As long as you keep your FC up you will have no problem, the CYA just ultimately preserves some chlorine and slightly increases the amount you need so the old adage haste makes waste applies here. Give it the extra 24 hours before you test so you don't see a lower number and then add more and then it fully circuclates and your overshoot.

yeah I didn't retest it tonight, waiting till tomorrow night, it was going to be a waste of a test

Is there a difference between the 66 dollar gallon of liquid stabilizer I bought at a pool store vs the 27 dollar liquid stabilizer galllon at ocean state job lot ?

ok so current levels are :

CYA-60
FC 7.5 (only because I was low on salt and it wasn't making it for 2 days)
CC-0
salt tested at 3200 so I think I'm running at minimum but at least the generator is back running
