First time water testing

Welcome to TFP and congrats on the new pool. You've definitely come to the right place. Good job on getting a quality test kit.

It doesn't really matter what order you do the tests. The pH test can read abnormally high if your FC is over 10 PPM though. Just run all the tests and post them here and we'll get you on the right track. Post the results like this for easy reading.

FC
CC
pH
TA
CH
CYA

Do a complete set of tests and post the numbers here. Add chlorine and lower PH if needed. Otherwise post your test results and wait for comments before tinkering with the others.

What startup guide are you following for your first 30 days?

results from testing
FC 0 (i'm assuming since the sample never turned pink after adding the powder agent)
CC
PH 8.0
TA 140
CH 320
CYA 35
water is starting to look cloudy today pool water temp is 87F
temperature outside is 94F and will be all week
The only thing I added thus far after the results was 1 gallon of 31.45%-20 Muriatic acid
I have on hand from the pool contractor a bucket of 3" chlorinated tablets 90% chlorine tricolor-s-triazinetrione 99% and have a delivery system in my pentair system for them with a dial to regulate how quickly they dissolve. Im not sure where to dial that in either.

Thanks for your help!

You need to put in some chlorine pronto. Not the tabs. Your pool is about to run away from you, and you do not want to get an algae outbreak during this critical startup phase. Has the pool water been in there for at least a couple days? If so, can you get to the store tonight to pick up some liquid chlorine or bleach? Have you found PoolMath yet? You can use that to determine how much chlorine to add.

You need almost 2 gallons of 6% bleach (No additives! Just plain bleach.)

Another 24oz of MA would be prudent. At least until a TFP Expert or Guide comes to help you better...

You need to maintain FC at 5-7, and pH around 7.6 for tonight.
