First time to open a pool. Need some guidance.

Hi, This year I plan to open the pool by myself to learn it. Here are some initial questions that I have.

1. Do I need to raise the water first until almost half of the skimmer before I should try to remove the jet plug covers?
2. Should I put the pool light back when the water is low or should I wait until I raise the water?
3. Regarding the pool jets. Can I put them back by hand or do I need a tool to screw them back properly?
