First time poster green pool

I can refill my pool with water into the water refill in the pool, but need to have the pump turned on. I just don't know where my pump pulls the water from as it would need to fill first. If it pulls from the side, well there is no water there to pull from.

You can not refill the pool with the water the is already in the pool ... if I understand what you are saying :D

If you are talking about a spigot that is on the plumbing above the pump, that is just a place where you could use the pool pump to drain some of the pool water.

It would be slightly odd to have a fresh water source plumbing into your pool plumbing that would require the pool pump to be on.

Good morning friends in the fight against algae. My pool has been filling all night, and is getting closer to being filled, maybe another two hours. On bleach for the SLAM process, do you recommend going with the standard 6% or going with the 10% pool essentials chlorine?

Standard bleach now is 8.25%. Liquid chlorine ranges between 10-12%. Go with which is cheaper. Just make sure to buy from a store with high turn over in stock. Avoid Lowes and Home Depot as they store their pallets of chlorine outside in the garden center where it sits in the sun and heat degrading.

Julian date codes are common on the jugs, or expiration dates one year past production. Try to buy bleach less than 3 months old since production.

No splashless, no perfumed, no outdoor types.....just plain old household laundry bleach or liquid chlorine.

Yip :flower:

I say do the math.........which one gives more bang for you buck. It might come down to pennies. In that case I would be thinking of using the 10% just to not have to lug as many jugs.

Make sure to check all date codes!!!!!! Bleach/chlorine should not be older than 3 months. The newer the better.

Actually, you will find that most "standard" bleach is now 8.25%. Most times it's labeled "concentrated".

Generally what most folks are looking at is the final cost per fluid oz. One of the members here created THIS Calculator to figure the cost for comparison.

But, I always keep in mind that the lower the % the more bottles I have to carry.

I just have to say, I'm thoroughly impressed with how responsive you all are! Thank you very much and I can only hope you will enjoy the journey the TFP is taking me on this weekend!
Please understand, this may take more than the weekend. While you are helping it along significantly with the drain/refill there will still be a lot of nooks and crannies that had algae hiding.

Hit it hard. Once the pool is full follow the SLAM Process instructions to the letter. For this entire weekend test and adjust you chlorine back to SLAM level every hour or two. I'm guessing by the end of the weekend the loss in 2 hours will have gone down significantly, but not entirely. That is why you will need to keep it up during the coming week. Come Monday (Good name for a song) you will want to test/adjust before work, as soon as you get home, after dinner and the last time before bed.

These photos were taken yesterday before I began draining. Amazing how bad it got since my first post.

30 minutes or so from first test!

You can add bleach after the pump has run for about 15 mins after adding the acid.

That picture of the steps is going to be THE picture I will ask for each day.

Now go add your SLAM bleach! I would test in 1 hour to see how it is staying. IF it has dropped below SLAM level I would add some more. If it has not then wait 2 hours. Go from there. Keep a good log of your tests.

You only need to test FC for now. Nothing else really matters!

 We will get you all cleared up!

Not sure if this is good or bad, but my test after the first hour read 42.5!

WAYNE!!! How much bleach did you put in that pool!!!!!!!! I think you got a little pour happy there! I would not bother testing for a while! Like tomorrow!

DUDE! You are going to give me a heart attack :shaking: :pale:

I would order some more test stuff asap at this rate!
