First time pool startup

Add the 20ppm of CYA. Use a target slam for CYA of 30 (which is 12 FC). You can adjust SLAM level later if needed.

I wouldn't store anything until we know we need to SLAM with OCLT.
Thanks! So I’ll add chlorine, stabilizer, and PH minus (muriatic acid) to get to my ideal levels. So the goal after that is to keep adding chlorine to keep it at SLAM level? If I’m not mistaken

Got it! I'm back onboard... đŸ¤£
Just have one question. My pool guy who closed the pool last year for me used pool antifreeze. I just took out those pool antifreeze bottles from the skimmer and now the skimmer is filled with antifreeze… am I going to mess something up running this antifreeze through my filter? A little too late now to blow out any lines IMO.

Thanks

Should be ok, at least mine gets mixed in with the water.

It is fine. Chlorine will take care of it...

Hmmm it’s still super high PH. Add more muriatic acid?
Add enough to reduce by .4. Repeat until you reach 7.2. Are you inputting 14.5% when you calculate what to add? Are you adding in pencil stream over return and brushing? Pump running? What test kit are you using and what reagent for the pH test?

I’m using the TF test kit. And whatever reagent that have included. Pump running. Yes adding over return. No not brushing the walls. I must just not be adding enough.

Use pool math, put in 14.5% and add enough to reduce pH by .4. Use effects of adding to calculate how much to add to reduce by .4. 30 minutes pump on. Rinse and repeat. DON'T JUST ADD MORE.
Well. I did this. And according to pool math, 55oz should have done it - unless I’m reading this wrong

Make your target 7.8. That is a .4 decrease. When bringing pH down from a level that is unknown, do it in .4 increments.

If you go to effects of adding and configure until you get a pH drop of .4, you will see not at the bottom where larger changes are NOT accurate.

Got it. I mean that’s 1 quart if I targeted 7.8. I added more than that (almost 3 quarts) since my target was 7.6 originally. And it’s still off the charts in terms of PH. Almost feel like the PH went up lol. This muriatic acid should be bringing the PH down right?

Yes. Can you fill out your signature?
