Hello,
I've been lurking here for a few weeks, learning what I can and getting my pool in order. My family moved into a new (to us) house with a pool this year in mid-April. The pool was opened mid-May and I followed the opaque advice from the pool store without really knowing what I was doing for a couple weeks. It became obvious pretty quickly that the testing they did and the resulting advice really depended on who you happened to get. Some of the tested attributes swung wildly which didn't make much sense to me as I tried to understand the chemistry involved.
Luckily, via the Reddit pool sub, I stumbled upon this forum. I read up on basics, bought a Taylor test kit and the Pool Math app and got down to work. My pool has been in good shape for a couple weeks now. Water is clear, everything in the proper ranges, and holding steady. I've still been testing daily (FC and pH) but feel confident I can relax that a bit as I know what to expect now.
It's very satisfying to understand what's going on and be able to fix it on my own.
Thanks so much to all of you for helping us newbies out, it's very much appreciated!
