First Time Above Ground Pool Owner and I'm LOST!

5pm FC Test - Sitting at 14.5ppm but it could still be a slight inaccuracy on my part with the testing, I added to additional drops just because there was still a slight pink hue to the swirling water.

But I don’t have to add anything since the 3pm test so that might be a good thing.

There was a torrential downpour for about 15-20min between tests and not sure if that would effect anything.

Well done! You are heading in the right direction! Don't back down now. You can move to every three hours for the rest of the day.
For work you can get a few tests in. Once you wake up (after coffee of course LOL), before you leave the house if is a bit after you get up, as soon as you get home, after dinner, and one more time before you go to bed.

Thanks!!!

Just wrapped up the sunset FC Test! Sitting at 12ppm so I’ll let it ride and test again tomorrow morning at 6am 😊

Luckily I work from home so checking often isn’t an issue so I do have that luxury but I’ll keep rolling with it.

Also ran a CC tonight just to see where we were at that test is sitting at 2.5ppm so I know we have a little to go to get that down to an acceptable level.

Ya know that makes the most sense 😂

There’s the pool! Honestly it’s always been pretty dang clear, I’ve never had to clean up visible algae which has been confusing but as you all informed me there’s invisible algae!

So where do we stand on the OCLT this morning? The pool suffered a substantial loss in FC dropping from 12ppm to 5ppm over 10hrs (8pm to 6am) BUT the CC did drop from 2.5ppm to 1ppm…

Really hoping this means things are still moving in the right direction!

It's microscopic. By the time you can see it, it's way too late. So you trust the testing which gives you the early warning while you still have the upper hand. :)

You need:

Clear water (Check)
Overnight FC loss 1 or less (not yet)
CCs 0.5 or less (not yet)

Slam on.

That is the plan, I’ll keep the every 2hr check simply because I can 😊

Unfortunately where I live and where the pool sits mid-day UV is brutal but we shall persevere!!

I might test the CYA today as well. I added the 30ppm equivalent Saturday late afternoon.

Just a little mid day update.

12pm FC/CC/CYA Test

FC: 14.5ppm
CC: .5ppm

Which brings me to my CYA… is there by chance photos that exist explaining what “Keep filling until you can no longer see the black dot in the bottom of the tube” really means 😂

I was slowly filling the view tube up and around the 50-40’ish mark it’s barely visible but I can still kinda see it if I squint one eye… so just thought I’d ask. lol

Just stand outside, back to the sun, fill to each line. Hold at your waste in the shadow of your body, GLANCE at the tube. If the dot is gone, you are done. Take the number next to that line and add 10. That is your CYA.

MOD note: LOL note my input on this above.

As always killer advice on the air with the bottle! Didn’t drop too bad. Registered 11.5ppm so bringing it back up to 12ppm and I’ll check again at 3pm

FYI, if you follow the instructions for the TA test you will notice it says to wipe the tip of the bottle with a damp rag between drops. That dissipates static electricity build up which effects the drop size of that particular chemical. All little tricks.

Good morning amazing pool people!!

Just reached my full 48hrs of SLAM! I know it’s not an oversight miracle but just thought I’d ask and see if there is still the chance I could be doing something better.

Over the last 24hrs CC has been .5 which seems great but for some reason we are still having that loss of FC overnight. It was by 7ppm the night prior and 6ppm last night.

I’ll just keep proceeding as I have been every 2hrs (minimal loss throughout the day) but just to keep checking 😊

You are doing GREAT. No matter how bad it ever may be, it goes better with more effort. It is helping you in a big way. (y)

SLAM process complete!

No drop in our FC from sunset to sunrise!
0 CC this morning
Pool is crystal clear

So my next steps should be….

Raise the CYA slowly! To 75ppm which is recommend for SWG start running my chlorinator at night for 12hrs again I believe that’s what recommended for my pool/pump.

Thoughts?

Congrats!

As a new pool owner, I'd raise it to 60 and run it there for a while. If you have to slam again, much easier than 70 or 80 CYA.

You can run the pump 12 hours, 24 hours, whatever is needed. Use pool math "effects of adding" to get a pump runtime and % output that will add about 4FC daily to start.

Thanks! Ok my lack of knowledge will shine again. Where would I find out the actual output or info on my SWG? I attached two photos.

One showing my product specifications and the other of PoolMath
