First test

Ok since I can't actually test pH until my chlorine comes back down I've turned off my swcg again. I've asked my wife to pick up some pH up on the way home. I'll feel safer if I counter what I put in earlier until I can get a good reading.

Do not chase your tail using chemicals to yoyo pH. And, pH up will not only raise your pH but your TA way too much because it is soda ash. If you need to raise pH, use Borax.

Just let the FC come down to 10 ppm and test your pH. Then post what you get and we can provide you some guidance.

You test your FC to see what it is.
If you are speaking of your SWCG, it should have an indicator or read out that shows what the setting you have it on is.

Turn it off. But I suspect the % setting is working. Was it cloudy yesterday or bright and sunny?

It will get easier. But I was on the chemical roller coaster as well and chasing problems which actually may or may not have been there. I probably created more for myself by not being patient and not doing things incrementally and watching the progress. It’s better for your sanity and you’ll have that sparkling, clear water you want faster that way. Have faith in the experts, and remember to rinse each measuring cylinder before you put in your water sample- every time.
