I woke up this morning to an orangey-green pool.

We rarely use fill water (maybe 2x summer?) and try to rely on rain to refill, which usually does fine. We have a cartidge filter housing to attach to the hose end, and usually fill to the bare minimum. Yesterday I started adding water... and forgot to turn it off before bed. We've since added probably 5 inches of water (overfull), up to the coping.

Since it's visible iron, my plan is just to run my filter pump 24/7 till it clears, I hope. Are my filter cartridges going to be toast after all that? This is their 5 summer, we were planning to get new for next year, but do we need to buy sooner?

Anything else I should be doing?

Also: 😭😭😭😭

Polyfill in the skimmer baskets.

Your cartridge filters may get plugged with the iron. You can revive them by doing a TSP soak (to remove any oils) followed by an acid bath soak to remove the iron.
