Filter sand Question

I understand this thread is old, but wanted to share my experience. Acquiring my approximately 2008 pool in 2013, I had some growing/learning pains with my new green pool. My water chemistry was poor, my pump was only 1/2 HP, I was Solar powered, therefore limited in circulation run time. I also found my Hayward Pro series 700 lb sand filter much less than half full. A visitor had suggested water channeling as a problem, so we inspected, threw away about a 4 gallon bucket of cruddy sand from the top, and then added 9 - 50 lb bags of new sand. This addition brought the level to about 15 inches below the top of the stand pipe. I cannot find a fill line on this filter and decided to leave it as is. Does that sound right?

Welcome to TFP :)

That should work fine, now do a deep clean on your filter and get all those channels out... :)
