Filter question

We had our pool equipment taken out by a hurricane. Is there any way to use an above ground filter to get us through the summer? It will be a couple of months before the equipment can be replaced.

Really no difference between above ground filters and in ground pool filters.

What filter do you have in mind?

saw a 1hp pump and filter combo. I think I can get everything connected to the correct existing lines. I'll just use a chlorine floater. Its a 23000 gal. pool. I know 1hp is undersized but I really just need to limp through the summer.

Is the pump listed as "self priming"?

Above ground pool pumps often assume the pump is below the water level and will not self prime.

So I have a 19" sand filter using filter balls and a 1.5hp pump running. Rated for an 18-20000 gal. above ground pool. Mine is 23000. Its been running for 2 days and I'm not really seeing any improvement. The water is green with about 2ft of visibility. I have a chlorine floater, a tablet in the filter basket and I shocked it. All 2 days ago. The intake line is about 6 feet down in the deep end. I have run 2 output nozzles spaced from the filter to get some water circulation. Is it just a waiting game now? How long should it take to see some improvement?

Replace the filter balls with sand. That is part of the problem.
Take the tab out of the skimmer basket. It is acidic and can damage equipment.
How are you testing your water. You need a recommended test kit to SLAM. Link-->Test Kits Compared
To clear your pool, follow the SLAM process. Link-->SLAM Process

Using a few chlorine tabs isn't going to rid your pool of algae.
You need to complete the SLAM Process using liquid chlorine.
Continued use of tablets will increase your CYA to the point of making the pool unmanagable.

Don't try buying the test kit locally. Local retailers will try to convince you what they have in stock is all you need.
Go to tftestkits.net and order the TF-Pro (comes with the electronic stirring device - game changer).

Complete your account details with location and basic pool info

Complete your signature with pool, all pool equipment (include manufacturers and model numbers) and test kit info.

Follow the slam process. Print it out, read it three times, keep it with you paper copy really helps. Link-->SLAM Process

For a CYA of 70, your SLAM level FC is 28

Taylor kit. not sure of the number. looks like the TF-100 in your link. I have added a total of 4 gallons of liquid chlorine. My kit only goes to 10ppm but the color is darker than that level. FC has been over 10ppm. I believe the CC is low because the color doesn't really change when I add the reagent for that. It has been the same for 36hrs. Pool has not changed. Still green and cloudy. My assumption is that I have not hit 28ppm that was suggested below. How long does it take to start seeing some change? Or should I add a couple of more gallons?
