Filter pressure gauge showing 40psi when off.

Thread title. The filter pressure gauge on my Hayward sand filter is showing 40 psi when the system is completely off. When on it shows 55 PSI. I assume it’s just a bad gauge that needs replaced since it seems impossible for it to be at 40 PSI when off right? Since I was able to open the pump and clean the basket etc.

Sorry if simple/dumb question. I googled like crazy first but couldn’t seem to find an answer so thought I’d ask the experts!
 
That's correct. I would get a new one. Shoot for one that only goes to 30 PSI - easier to read and you shouldn't go above that. Glycerin filled ones are nice and tend to last longer in my experience.

I would recommend making sure you bring it in with your other pool stuff at the end of the season and not leave it in the filter. :)
