Fighting a losing battle

Take the ladder out and inject it with liquid chlorine let it sit then flush it out. Many have had success with using a pressure washer. Don’t put it back in until you’re sure its clean as a whistle

I took it out before I started slamming, and it hasn't been put back in since. I've decided to just toss it out and get a new one. The water here is very hard and it has a lot of build up on it as well as algae. I scrubbed and scrubbed yesterday and got some off, but there's so many crevices that are hard to get to that I think it'll be more work than it's worth to get clean.

I feel your pain. I was just in the pool yesterday using creative language while scrubbing my pool steps!

I want a solid, smooth, no hollow parts anywhere and no joins either, that is completely open underneath and easy to get to for brushing, set of pool stairs. This animal doesn’t seem to exist!

Mine aren’t too bad after some modifications (xtra holes) as they are just a big piece of hollow plastic with no bottom.
Even when they are weighed down & the hand rail is screwed to the deck I can lift them a little get the brush under & behind them & I can access the liner underneath by pulling the ballast weight out.
They don’t have any inaccessible areas like ladders do.

Put the stairs on the outside. ;)

You have a deck, so that gives you more options!

Yes! I never intended to have such a large deck but I was planning a small platform with a couple low wide steps. Being buried helps avoid a dreaded ladder.
My knees & cankles really can’t do the ladder rungs much so I certainly didn’t want my oasis to have one!
I also wanted my mom to be able to easily access the pool along with the kiddos to be able to sit & play on the steps.
I knew that filling the steps with sand was a terrible idea but I never realized how many crannies all steps & ladders seem to have.
My intex ladder never had any issues. To be fair I didn’t have that pool long (a few seasons) & all the others before were smaller and I could just step over the side!

Hated the Intex ladder - chucked it almost immediately!

To be fair to my poor, much maligned steps, I’ve had them for years and I didn’t know any better when I got them, so I followed the directions and filled them with sand. I cleaned the sand out about 2 years ago, and it was disgusting.

My uncle had some really awesome very wide wedding cake steps - they filled them with sand & were never able to remove them/get the sand out. It was an algae battle royale on the regular. They finally got removed when they had the pool dismantled & replaced after 20yrs. It took a skid steer to get them out! Never pour sand in your steps!

Can I see a picture of them?

Sweet! I'll have to invest more next year on some nice stairs like that. That would make it so much easier for my mom to get in and out.
They have some smaller ones that take up less space - I see them on fb marketplace all the time.
