Field mice

Ok so we haven’t used pool or floats for a month. I have been noticing increased field mice poop in various areas of pool house. Killed 2 with traps. Figured I was good until today when I noticed a smell in storage. Field mouse took up shop had babies in a material float. 100 dollars shot. Uncovered couch to check cushions. Ya got one of those. Lucky we bought the anything happens we replace it plan so don’t care about that. But I deff got mice. I live by woods I deal with them all the time but they r getting comfortable.

So what are my best “drop zone” tactics to get rid of them? I don’t want any hippy yippy ways either. I do t know if I should just load up the corners and spaces with rat poison or just use sticky traps bit what is a good mouse food bait? Peanut butter? Honey?

A few years ago we had a ton of squirrels. My neighbor and myself did a good job of obliterating the squirrel population. I literally haven’t seen a squirrel in years in my yard. They make easy targets if you know what I mean.

I’m so mad about the damage they have done already and I know it’s cause we haven’t been moving floats or being out there as much. I’m going to have to be careful with how I pack up for winter.

Define "Hippy Yippy"? ;)
I just dealt with a rat/mice infestation this winter.. ugh. once they start making new mice it become geometrically harder to deal with them.
1) Find out how/where they are getting in and block it.
2) Find out where they are setting up their nests and block access to that as well.
3) Find out what they are eating and remove it.
4) Mouse poison works.. but they crawl off someplace and die, so now you have to find the smelly corpse
5) Traps are nice cause you can dispose of the body and have the visual satisfaction that you got the bugger... BTW peanut butter, they like the oil
6) Dehydrated potato flakes.. they eat it and it drink something and it explodes their stomachs.. Is this Hippy or Yippy.. if you Google it you get lots of hits.
7) Electronic rodent gizmos... this was the last thing I put in.. I was advised it won't chase them away.. but it will keep them from taking up residence. So far it seems to work...

Hey guys. So the sticky box traps I'm using, they say prebaited but I still added peanut butter. Do I still need the food on it if prevailed you think?

I got rid of the pool rafts the dug into and setup shop. I know that's the only place. I think they tried the couch cushion and decided it would not work so they bailed. I'm hoping I caught it all soon enough.

I know there is one in the storage room. I saw it run from me. I put 2 traps in there and stuck 2 in my kitchen area under the sink cabinet cause I caught one in there the other day.

What do you mean my electronic rodent gizmos?

Poison is your friend.
Build a several owl boxes and encourage predation.
These recommendations cannot coexist. Poison is no one's friend. It goes up the food chain and kills the truly friendly predators who are happy to help with the rodent problem. I'm with @Oly on this one.

traps can work but they usually just scurry past them. Sink longer screws halfway a few inches high above the traps and put peanut butter on the screws. The mice will stand up on the traps to get the peanut butter.

I like the screw with peanut butter idea. Thanks for that. No catches last night. One deff moved the one trap. That’s about it.

They did damage that cost me money so the gloves are off whatever it takes to get them out.

My neighbor has an outside cat. It loves to hunt. Doesn’t come down my way though.

Steel wool in any holes they might be coming in to a closed area. Moth balls to help deter them. We use the moth bars as they are easy to hang where needed. It has worked great keeping mice out of the mower after they decided to move in and remodel wires

Snap traps to catch please. No sticky glue or poison please.

Ok now these options are just taking up my time. Lol. I’m going to grab a few snap traps tonight. More poop under my kitchen sink in the pool house so there is deff 1 there.
That's what happens when a thread captures the imagination of the Members... it starts taking up your time!

Good luck!

Yes.. math balls work as well

I went to get snap traps last night but I got sidetracked buy my buddy putting new lights on his trailer for the boat. Priorities. Lol. Got to fish tomorrow. Need lights.

Ok I’m getting moth balls. I have to still get the snap traps.

I did catch another one last night so I’m up to three no new damage either.

Problem is I can’t block off all the areas they can get into I’m dealing with an open outdoor pool house. Once I take my refrigerator into the winter I’m going to block that one wall because I think that’s how they’re getting around to where the kitchen sink is after dad died in the kitchen will pretty much be plugged up to them and I’ll only have to worry about the storage room but the storage room is a whole Nother story because they can get in othe once I take my refrigerator into the winter I’m gonna block that one wall because I think that’s how they’re getting around to where the kitchen sink is after that’s done the kitchen will pretty much be closed up to them and I’ll only have to worry about the storage room but the storage room is a whole other story.
