Fence Stain Suggestions

Hello,

I plan on building a horizontal slatted wood fence around my pool equipment. I'm researching stain options. I'd like to be able to see the grain of the wood and am looking natural looking brown tones. Any suggestions?

Fence will likely be some type of pine board.

Jim, that stain looks perfect. Pecan is right in line with what I was looking for.

I have only used it on cedar, which is kind of porous, and sucks it up... I have no clue how well it will work on pine.

Not sure if you can get a sample or not, but I would not buy much until you know for sure it will work for you, as it is a little on the expensive side.

You may want to consider putting an outdoor coating on the stained wood like a poly or something like helmsman spar or sikkens.

Especially since it is exposed wood.

If you read Consumer Reports (avail online, perhaps at library) I recall they recently reviewed wood stains.

I'm going to get a small piece of the wood I am thinking of using to see how it stains. I believe it is kiln dried, so it should soak in well.

I used Sikkens on my pergola and that came out great, but way darker than I expected. It is pretty much jet black.

I only use Sikkens after my contractor neighbor turned me onto it. Good stuff.

It's a little expensive but works great

Might want to consider a grey stain as this is what the wood will naturally weather to (especially if you have spinklers hitting it in places).
