FC went up 1.5 in 2 days, should I adjust my SWG?

FC was usually running around 3-3.5 while I was trying to dial in my CYA and pH. I think I finally got my pH and CYA where I need them, but now my FC is up.

Test 2 days ago - CYA at 80, pH at 8.2, and FC at 5.5
Test today - CYA at 80, pH at 7.8 and FC at 7

Still trying to get a handle on how all of these relate to one another.

SWG is running at 30%. Should I back my SWG down now since CYA and pH seem to be where I want them but the FC is rising? OR...should I just let it run and keep testing to see if it continues to trend upwards before I make any changes to my SWG?

Edited to add this is our first summer with the pool. It was completed in November 2022.

I'd leave things as-is for now ad monitor. If the FC creeps closer to 10, then sure, lower the SWG output a bit. Better to be slightly strong right now and avoid algae. The pH is its own beast, but keeping it around 7.8 is good, especially in the summer.

With your CYA at 80, the target range for FC is 6-11 (from the calculator on the FC/CYA page), and the bare minimum you want is 4 ppm. So I think you have it set right, especially considering that the sun is getting higher in the sky every day now, and your FC loss will increase. I aim to stay at the high end of the target FC range, and maybe even a little above it, in the Spring.

bd,

If you try to micromanage your FC so that it is always between your minimum and your target, it will drive you crazy. A sunny day or a cloudy day will make your FC go out of range.

It is much eaiser if you try to maintain your FC at your target or higher (within reason).. Running 'hot' will not cause any issues, but running with too little FC can become a real problem.

I think of my minimum FC level as a cliff I never want to fall off, so I keep well away from the edge.

Thanks,

Jim R.
