Failed OCLT?

I would think with "chlorite" in the name it's going to change your chlorine count.
Oh yes. They only claim it doesn't jack the CYA like all the trichlor/dichlor shocks. So being stabilized with calcium instead they tout it as CYA free.

It would be nice if they *it will jack your calcium'd somewhere on the label, but they don't want to scare people off that way instead so whattayagonnado ? :ROFLMAO:

Thank you so much. I just have so much work into it I want to keep doing the right thing. Appreciate your help
You are doing all the right things! And have a team of people here to get you through the muck and gunk.

You Got This Dos Equis GIF

These are some pics overall pick. Pick up the steps at 4 ft. Pick at the 8-ft deep end. As you can see you can't see the bottom of the deep end at all. The 4-ft you could see the last step barely. Got home it was 22 FC we should be 26. I am brushing and vacuuming to lower level to refill to try to bring cya down cya is still hanging at 65 you know between 70 and 60 it's hard to tell. After vacuuming and refill I will adjust FC to 26 with liquid chlorine. What do you think?

Will do. Did I mention that this pool is 19 years old same liner there is no designs on the liner on the bottom anymore it is just straight blue with metal stains. Through the years I've done the stain removal. And that is a nightmare because the FC has to be so low for it to work. At one point it ended up with an algae bloom. So I'm living with the stains I'm not really too concerned with those. Thanks again

Did not pass the test again last night. I will just keep at it. Although with all the rain we got last night and vacuuming my cya is now between 55 and 60 it's hard to tell on that dot in the Taylor test kit. Do you know of a better cya test? I was wondering when do I add algaecide or metal free or pH or alkalinity you know all the other good stuff?

Algecide consumes FC and vice versa, leaving you with less of each. It's counterproductive during the season and even more so during slam.

Ph and TA are after the slam. Metal sequesterants are after also.

I test with a TF-Pro… so I can’t help you on a better CYA test.

As for when to add… no more of that. 😊 We’re going right for the basics here. Liquid chlorine, cyanuric acid, muriatic acid… that’s your arsenal (unless something gets really out of hand)

Enough balance in the FC keeps your algae in check - you won’t need your algaecide.

Metal in the pool water - if it’s Iron, I’m your girl…

PH we manage naturally to raise and muriatic acid to drop. Total Alkalinity can be managed with the PH rise and fall.

Trouble free is the name of the game.

We got you 🙌🏼🙌🏼

How does the pro kit test cya? I have used the natural chemistry extra strength stain free to remove the stains previously. But don't want to go there. I believe that's what started this algae , green pool in the first place I tried to use it again. The stains are at a point where it's bothersome but on a 19-year-old liner and the trouble I have trying to remove them. Once I get through this slam I've decided to just live with the stains and don't mess with them. Yes I believe they are iron stains. Unless you think you know of a way that I can get rid of them without going through a nightmare that would be great. I am on well water.. it's kind of glad we had that hard rain last night put about an inch of water into the pool after vacuuming plus the cya went down.

CYA from TFP PRO
50/50 pool water/reagent
Shake
Drops in tube

I do the “drop to line… peek”, “drop to next line… peek” method.

If the stains are rust/iron - the best method is Vitamin C tabs, crushed in a thin/athletic material sock, rubbed on the stains. This can take multiple times to get them lifted.

the stains started about 5 years ago. They progressively got worse. Sometimes I would have success with the extra strength stain free all the times it turned into an algae fight. How do I tell if it's iron?

If you can get to one of the stains fairly easily - get some of that Vitamin C sock going and try to lift it. If it lifts, it’s iron.

If not… then we do some more research on if it’s an organic stain

Okay I can try that. Just FYI I am going in for spinal surgery this morning. I probably won't be back here to check with you guys on things for a couple of days. I have some help with someone checking the FC as we go again thanks for all your help and I'll talk to you in a day or so I hope. Chuck
