Expansion Joints in Cantilever Deck

I have a poured concrete cantilever deck with many expansions joints cut by a concrete saw. When I wash the deck or there is a heavy rain water runs back into the pool because the expansion joints are cut to the
edge of the pool deck. Should the expansion joints been cut all the way to the edge of the deck allowing water to run into the pool? If not, any recommended repair?

Hi, welcome to TFP! I think the deck itself should have a slight slope away from the pool, but we have members with more experience that can offer a more informed opinion. I am assuming you don't have additional coping around your pool? Please post a picture of your pool deck, it will help us troubleshoot your problem.

My expansion joints are cut all the way to the edge of the cantilever deck. There is a plastic expansion joint piece running for most of that distance. The part closest to the pool is caulk with a SikaFlex caulking which prevents dirt, etc,. from running into the pool. I don't remember which exact SikaFlex product it is - but it is not self leveling as it also runs up the vertical surface of the overhang and underneath the overhang.

If you go this route, get a good quality caulk - you don't want to have to redo it next year.
