eXO Clearwater Duo "Flow" connector

Hi,

I have a eXO pH IQ here that I'm going to install soon, I see on the bottom of the unit there is a port label "FLOW", now I have always loved the idea of a paddle based inline flowmeter to tell me when I need to clean the filter and also to perhaps feedback to a multi-speed pump, now page 10 of the Installation Manual all it says is "Flow" input route 2 "Not used in AUS / South Africa" so what does that mean, can I add a after market flowmeter to this port, anyone any idea?

Thanks.
Richard

I assume it’s a Zodiac SWG. You’ll find it’s not for a flowmeter but rather a simple flow switch. In general our SWG’s don’t use flow switches, the chlorinator controls both the cell and pump with a feedback from the conductivity sensor in the cell. Depending on the model when the conductivity is too low it will give a low flow indicator and shut off power to the pump and cell.

Over complicating things has consequences other than increasing the cost. Things like pH control can be good for automated process control but it adds an extra level of maintenance. The pH set point limits are 6.8-7.6 (p.22-23), too bad if you want to run at 7.8 and no one should run at 6.8. Kind of odd when they say the AU standard is 7.2-7.8. Most of the units I have looked at have a very narrow range and unsuitable for my needs, I run at 7.8 or between 7.6 and 8.0.

Good quality flow meters and process control units are expensive, for filter cleaning your better off just monitoring your pressure guage and backwash or clean as required.

If it has the ORP sensor I would just turn that off. ORP is more trouble than its worth. I do like a bit of process control but for me it’s either CyA or ORP where I choose CyA any day of the week. Your much better off with a decent test kit and just test and adjust as needed.
