EVO 604 - Under impressed

Bought an EVO 604 in March 2024. Highly under impressed. Usually need to run it 2 - 3 times to get my pool clean, and it is summertime in Houston...not a lot to clean up right now except a few leaves. Not sure how many times i will need to run it in the fall when the leaves start to fall. Going back to my pressure-side Polaris 280. It did a much better job getting the leaves out - I just wish there was an answer to the terrible supply hose.

So, I have had the EVO 604 one cleaning season:

Pros:
Power cord is flexible and does not tangle
Probably uses less power than the 280, although I am not interested in saving $5 a month on power – I just want a clean pool
I can toss it in the hot tub and clean it too (can't do that with the 280)

Cons:
Cannot leave it in the pool
Doesn’t do a great job cleaning – usually need to run at least 2-3 times.

Rog,

I have a 614, but it is mechanically the same as what you have..

I have used both Dolphin robots and now the EVO robot and they both do an excellent job.. I have three pools and three robots and none of them need to run more than one pass, 95% of the time.. If I have just one dimed size leaf in the pool, it will be gone after just one cycle 95% of the time.

What I don't have is a layer dust or algae on the floor of my pool, so I can't see where the robot has been, I can only tell what the robot picks up and that I can not visually see anything other than clean plaster.

Tell us more about the problem.. Are you saying that if you have 20 leaves in your pool it only picks up 10 or 15 of them? Or can you see tracks where the robot has traveled or??? Is this a case of your old cleaner would run every day, but you are only running the robot once a week, or ?? Do you expect the robot to pick up algae?

I completely understand that robots are not for everyone, but other than a short lifespan, I have never had an issue with them not cleaning well.. If fact, most new users say they clean better than their water powered cleaners, so I am surprised at your response.

Another thing.. My EVO came with the standard basket... I used it for almost a year, and then they came out with a finer basket.. I got one and tried it, expecting it to not pick up much, because I run the standard basket first.. Boy was I wrong... It picked up about a pound of 'mud'.

Not sure this is your problem, as I could never see this dust (that the cleaner turned in to mud) when it was in the pool. Maybe you just have more of it??

Thanks,

Jim R.

Hi Jim, thank you for your reply. Having leaves in your pool at this time of year in Houston is unusual, but when hurricane Beryl came through, it must have weakened the stems. My pool is spotless (been following TFP guidelines for over a decade) other than the 30ish leaves that I find at the bottom each morning. I run the 604 in the mornings, and at the end of the cycle I always have a few leaves at the bottom that it has missed. Im not complaining too much - there are a lot of worse things in the world than a few leaves at the bottom of your pool.

We will see how it performs this fall when the leaves really begin to fall. Hurricane Beryl was probably a good proxy, and after that storm I had to run the 604 all day to get the debris out, and I had to get most of it out with a hand net.

Have a great day.

Have you tried using running "floor" mode so it focuses on the bottom?

The main thread for this cleaner (well actually the 614 model) shows. a lot of examples of the basket doing a great job with different types of debris.
