Hello. I am not sure what this part of the pool is called, but it is the edge/ledge of the pool. When swimming, jumping in, the water splashes up in this corner and erodes the finish. Grout also eroded. Any advice on what to do here? Last thing I want is someone getting cut on a sharp edge. I’m totally new to pool care, but I can patch this if I know what materials to get.

That’s called the pool deck and you have a cantilever style deck which should have a flexible expansion joint (not grout) between the tile and the concrete deck. Lack of an expansion joint there could be causing that. But also looks like it’s been painted with some kind of coating and those aren’t known to last very long. Is it possible the cracks were already there and someone painted over them to hide it and the paint is failing?

That fix will be more than a patch. The cantilevered deck was installed incorrectly. The finish of the deck should not have been installed below the blue tiles.

It has cracked because the vertical tiles are moving separately from the white decking.

The corner where that white decking looks completely destroyed looks a results of that same improper overlap of the vertical tiles.

Unless you are pretty decent at masonry work, I think you will need a pool guy to inspect it and offer suggestions.

Thanks. That’s what I was afraid of. We just bought this house, and had the pool inspected. Was told it was in excellent condition. Cracks only appeared a few weeks ago.

Is there something I can do to make it work for the summer? Ideally we can continue to use the pool this summer, then fix it in the fall.
