Is there a correct way to open and empty the skimmer basket on the pump (pictures attached) after vacuuming? I turn the pump off but the lid is still very tight (pressure). Once off the water drops and I am nervous about turning the pump back on with low water. Should any of the valves be off or the pump set to closed after turning off motor.
thank you

Steve,

Does your multi-port valve have an off position? If so, use it.

The pump basket does not need to be full for the pump to work as it should. Just pop the lid, clean the basket, put the lid back on and fire it up. It should work fine. It should not take more than about 30 seconds for it to start sucking water from the pool.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thank you, multi valve does not have an off position just closed, not sure if that’s the same. I just wanted to make sure I was not doing any damage starting the pump back up with low water. Sounds like it’s fine.

Self priming pumps are designed to handle running dry for a bit. For the few minutes it takes to prime, it won't hurt them.
